It has bagged the best heritage city award for the year 2012 13. “Tirupati is the epitome of pilgrim centres not only in the country but also in the world. The temple city of Tirupati houses the world famous temple of Lord Venkateswara along with another dozen temples of historical significance,” says Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.
This prestigious award was jointly received by special chief secretary of AP tourism de asics running shoes partment Chandana Khan along with the TTD executive officer Mukkamala Giridhar Gopal during National Tourism Awards function held at Vignan Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Tirupati, which has a glorious history of over 1000 years, made this achievement not only because of the presence of its historical structures and temples of architectural value but also in maintaining cleanliness on the premises at Tirupati and Tirumala, the TTD said adding that between 50,000 and one lakh pilgrims visit the temple daily.
