A Texas teenager did not come home empty handed from his first alligator hunt last week, bagging the largest reptile ever certified in the state.

Braxton Bielski, an 18 year old high school senior from Katy, shot and killed the 800 pound monster measuring 14 feet and 3 inches in length during a public hunt in the James E. Daughtrey Wildlife Management Area.

Braxton’s father, Troy Bielski, a Houston police officer, said that his son has wanted to take part in the hunt for years, and has applied annually to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s drawing for special permits.

According to wildlife officials, the 18 year old first time hunter snagged the massive reptile by baiting it with raw meat dangling from a hook and then firing at it at close range in accordance with the rules, the station KHOU11 reported.

Although Braxton’s catch was the record setter, Troy Bielski also had a productive hunt, bagging a female reptile measure 10 and a half feet in length.
